It is now over six months since Simon Monkhouse operated on me. Since then heart burn is a thing of the past, I have not had a single spasm in my oesophagus, and no more indigestion. Only occasional pain with certain foods. When I first visited Simon it was with the thought that he would be one more Doctor to tell me "physically there is nothing wrong with you". The assurance Simon gave me was such I left that day with hope. The first in two years. After certain tests Simon was sure I would benefit from an operation, which he performed soon after. I am now feeling so much better and no longer feel sick all the time. I am so glad I had the op. I would recommend Simon with confidence. Suzanne Phelps

I had the misfortune to be admitted with pancreatitis at the end of last year and after fantastic care in A&E I was taken to a ward were Mr Monkhouse was my consultant. I have been in many hospitals many times and have always found consultants to be distant, dismissive or arrogant or just too plain busy to treat you like a human rather than a problem to solve. Mr Monkhouse was the total opposite. He made time to explain my treatment in a manner I could take in without patronizing me, gave me a timescale of how long that treatment would take, without being asked and generally made me feel that I was in very good hands. However, that was not the end of it. Mr Monkhouse had let me know that I would be leaving hospital on Friday but knew he was able to make his rounds personally. Although he had introduced me to and formally passed me on to another colleague he went to the time and trouble to find my mobile number and ring me that morning to let me know that I was still able to go home. I was dumbfounded! I had not expected it but he knew I was worried about going home for the weekend as I am self employed and needed the time to sort my office before returning for surgery the next week. He has been so kind, professional and a very good doctor and an asset to the hospital.

Simon with me was brilliant. From the time I walked in he treated me with respect, listened and did not judge me. For the first time in two years I felt that there was perhaps help at hand and a possibility of getting my life back. Simon explained the different operations I could have, including doing sketches. What was the initial cause of my ailment. And which operation he felt would help. The differnt procedures/test I would need to confirm the operation would help. And what I should expect. He showed great patience to my many questions while I was with him, and later with my emails. He definitely gave me the impression I was important and went out of his way to help and assist me. As a self funding patient he even contacted several hospital to help me get the lowest costs. Six months later I feel I have my life back. I truly thank the day I met Simon. Suzanne Phelps

I met Simon Monkhouse when I was looking into having a weigh loss operation. From the very moment I went into my appointment , Simon was very skilled at putting me at ease , as I was very nervous. Simon was extremely clear on all the weight loss procedures that he could offer me with clear and honest information on all the pros and Cons , if any cons! of each procedure. The biggest plus at that meeting was that I never , at any point, felt judged, I felt that I knew that he wanted to help me. The biggest quality of this Surgeon is that he actually cares , not only about giving you the very best procedure and then your subsequent recovery , but also your ongoing weigh loss journey. He takes a personal interest to learn about each patient as a PERSON! He doesn't see you as just another body in the operating theatre! I can't recommend Simon ( and his team) highly enough . From my first appointment , then my operation and now my check up and progress appointments , Simon and the team have taken an interest in ME! and they have gone above and beyond to make sure that I am happy, healthy and that I am having the best care possible! Dr Monkhouse is an amazing consultant and He cares so much about his patients! I visited east Surrey hospital with severe stomach pains and luckily got referred to dr Monkhouse he made sure everything was done quickly so I wouldn't have to be in pain for much longer! He performed surgery on me around a month ago but I felt so safe because I trusted him. He listened to all my problems, booked all the tests I needed done within a quick time. I know feel like a brand new person I am so thankful for everything dr Monkhouse has done for me he defiantly is a Miracle worker and needs to be recognised for all his hard work!
